Reminder: Swimming Safari will be closed Wed. 11/22 through Sunday 11/27=6.

Please note this closure has been prorated out of your tuition total for November so you DO NOT need to schedule a make up lesson. If you feel as tho you may have been charged for these classes please let our office staff know.

We hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving with their family!

Safari Kids (4–12 years old)

Student to teacher ratio:4:1

Our Safari Kids program is designed to have a class that meets the need of every student ranging from their first swim lesson to preparing for a swim team. Under this program we offer four different groups of classes. Each of these class groups is broken down into smaller levels designed to maximize the student’s progress.

We believe it is very important for a child to experience the feeling of accomplishment that comes with moving up to the next level. All of our Safari Kids Classes have been carefully designed to include fun games and activities that will help students reach their maximum swimming potential.

  • Happy Hippos 1 (Getting Comfortable in the Water)

    This class is designed as an introduction to the water for fearful non-swimmers or swimmers new to separation from parent. The focus is to gain comfort and understanding of the water by encouraging each student at their own speed. Water games and comforting songs are used to help children relax and introduce them to water safety skills such as balance, breath control, and survival float.

    Please Note: This class may be taught as a combined lesson with our other Happy Hippos levels.

    Prerequisite: 4 years or older

    End Goals: Comfortable submerging face (3 sec.), breath control, assisted survival float.

  • Happy Hippos 2 (Holding Breath & Balance in the Water)

    This class is designed to build on the skills learned in the Happy Hippos 1 class and for non-swimmers who are comfortable in the water. Students in this class will be introduced to balance, independent gliding, and assisted floating. Skills and lessons are taught using fun activities to help the children enjoy the water and work at each student’s pace.

    Please Note: This class may be taught as a combined lesson with our other Happy Hippos levels.

    Prerequisite: Comfortable in the water, willingness to leave parent, willingness to submerge face.

    End Goals: Independent glide with submerged face, one-handed survival float, unassisted jumps.

  • Happy Hippos 3 (Front and Back Kicking, Rolling Over)

    This class is designed to build on the skills learned in Happy Hippos 2 and for students with very basic independent swimming skills. Students in this class will learn independent streamline gliding, independent rolling to float and independent survival float. Games and challenging activities are used to learn new skills at a pace that the students enjoy.

    Please Note: This class maybe taught as a combined lesson with our other Happy Hippos levels.

    Prerequisite: Head submersion for 5 seconds, one-handed survival float, independent y glide and unassisted jumps.

    End Goals: Independent survival float, independent streamline glide, independent roll to float.

  • Mighty Monkeys 1 (Propulsion)

    This class is designed to build on the skills learned in the Happy Hippos 3 class and for students who can independently glide and roll to float. The Mighty Monkey 1 class is designed to increase the child’s propulsion by increasing their distance, continuing to build their skills with the swim float swim, and focusing on their back kicks and sculling. Skills are taught using fun themes in an enjoyable way to help the student acquire the correct proficiencies.

    Please Note: This class may be taught as a combined lesson with our other Mighty Monkeys levels.

    Prerequisite: Independent survival float, independent streamline glide (5 to 7ft), independent roll to float.

    End Goals: Underwater arm swim (Paddle) (10+ ft), independent swim float swim, independent back float with kicks, independent back sculling.

  • Mighty Monkeys 2 (Beg. Freestyle & Backstroke)

    This class is designed to build on skills learned in the Mighty Monkeys 1 class and for students who are swimming distances over 10-12ft and proficient with their independent back float with kicks. This class will introduce students to beginner freestyle with side breathing and single-arm backstroke. Skills are presented through demonstration, practice, and positive reinforcement.

    Please Note: This class maybe taught as a combined lesson with our other Mighty Monkeys levels.

    Prerequisite: Underwater arm swim (10+ ft), independent back float with kicking, independent back sculling, independent swim float swim.

    End Goals: Catch-up arms with side breathing, single-arm backstroke, surface diving (3-5 ft).

  • Terrific Tigers 1 (Learning the Strokes)

    This class is designed to build on skills learned in the Mighty Monkeys 2 and for intermediate swimmers who are able to swim a basic freestyle with side breathing and a single-arm backstroke. In this class, students will be introduced to increased distances, backstroke, and breaststroke. Repetition and practicing of the correct form is the key to achieving success with these skills. Most classes will be held in 5-6 ft water so that they can also work on deep water diving.

    Please Note: This class may be taught as a combined lesson with our other Terrific Tigers levels.

    Prerequisite: Freestyle with side breathing, single-arm backstroke, independent swim float swim.

    End Goals: Mastery of freestyle with inline breathing (20+ ft.), mastery of backstroke, and basic understanding of the Breaststroke.

  • Terrific Tigers 2 (Building Endurance)

    This class is designed to build on skills learned in the Terrific Tiger 1 class and for intermediate / advanced swimmers who have mastered Freestyle, Backstroke and have a basic understanding of Breaststroke. The focus of this class is to introduce students to Butterfly, perfect Breaststroke, and build endurance. Students will also work on refining diving.

    Please Note: This class may be taught as a combined lesson with our other Terrific Tigers levels.

    Prerequisite: Freestyle with breathing (30ft), Backstroke (30ft), Breaststroke (Kick and Arms) (15ft).

    End Goals: Olympic Freestyle with Side Breathing (75ft), Olympic Backstroke (75ft), Breaststroke (75ft), basic Dolphin kick and Butterfly arms (75ft), treading water.

  • Amazing Alligators 1 (Mastering All 4 Strokes)

    This class is designed for advanced swimmers who can swim Olympic Freestyle, Olympic Backstroke, and Olympic Breaststroke in excess of 30 ft. In this class students will learn how to breathe to both sides while preforming Olympic Freestyle and swim Butterfly with proper timing and breathing. They will master Backstroke and Breaststroke.

    Please Note: This class may be taught as a combined lesson with our other Amazing Alligators levels.

    Prerequisite: Olympic Freestyle with side breathing (75ft), Olympic Backstroke (75ft), Breaststroke (75ft), basic Dolphin kick and Butterfly arms (75ft).

    End Goals: Olympic Freestyle with dual side breathing (50yds), Olympic Backstroke (50yds), Breaststroke with breathing (50yds), Butterfly with breathing (50yds).

  • Amazing Alligators 2 (Swim Team Prep)

    This class is designed for the advanced swimmer who wants to prepare for a swim team. Students in this class will learn competition turn and dives. They will also practice various drills designed to perfect each of the four competition strokes. Finally they will build their endurance and stamina.

    Please Note: This class may be taught as a combined lesson with our other Amazing Alligators levels.

    Prerequisite: Olympic Freestyle with dual side breathing (150yds), Olympic Backstroke (100yds), Breaststroke with Breathing (50yds) Butterfly with breathing (50yds).

    End Goals: Qualifying for a swim team.
